Promotion of good relations

The work to promote good relations between population groups includes two levels: a strategic and an operational.

Strategic work to promote good relations enhances them systematically as organisations take a proactive approach to advancing equality, safety and wellbeing. Operational efforts, on the other hand, often consist of specific measures whose aim is to solve a particular, identified problem.

When municipalities take a broader strategic look at the relations between population groups, individual measures become part of a wider approach, making the work to promote good relations visible and easier to influence and monitor.

The promotion of good relations involves collaboration among various stakeholders such as national, regional and municipal authorities, organisations, non-governmental organisations and local communities.

The Ministry of Justice develops policies on good relations as part of its work to promote equality, inclusion and democracy. The Ministry monitors issues related to good relations and collaborates with a wide variety of stakeholders. The Advisory Board for Ethnic Relations (Etno), coordinated by the Ministry, plays a key role in promoting good relations at the regional level and in developing local tools for this work.
